Remember when Aston introduced the Virage and then discontinued it a year and a half later?

I really liked the Virage. Faster and more refined than the DB9 but not ridiculously priced like the DBS/Vanquish.

I remember not being able to afford it. I’m vaguely conscious of not being able to afford it now. I’m also having a premonition about not being able to afford it in the future.

The first iteration was actually around from 1989 to 2000. The newer one was slotted in between the DB9 and DBS iirc. I think it was around for only 11-12 because Aston realized there wasn’t much reason to have a car between those two.

Out of all the versions of the DB9 released since it was launched, the 2012 Virage in that color with those wheels remains my favorite one.

If there was no DB9/DBS and Aston was only making a Virage, Vantage V8/V12, and a Vanquish, I think I’d understand why they made it.

Slotting it between the DB9/DBS just didn’t really make sense to me; I know there are a bunch of differences but for practical purposes it just looks like a mild/medium/hot version of the same car.

I’m just sayin! I thought it was a beautiful car, but there wasn’t much difference between it and the other two.

The Virage is the full size Aston I would buy if I could afford one. In this color with those wheels.

Similar story with the MP4-12C. Except in that case the new car (650) won out instead of the existing one.

Can’t fight the DB9

Anyway wasn’t the Virage more or less a DB9 facelift? Why did they try to separate it?

The Virage was a DB9 in a hat, essentially. Because apparently everyone was clamouring for something between the DB9 and the DBS.

I mean, it’s pretty much the same car with a new face. So more of a rename/refresh than a straight-up kill.
